TCBF General Assembly

We have the honor of hosting Tennessee Cooperative Baptist Fellowship’s annual General Assembly this April. Each year members from TCBF congregations gather together for worship, fellowship, dialogue, and learning. This year the rest of the state will make the long trip across the state to meet us in Memphis. I am very excited to host our friends here at First Baptist and in Memphis. Not only is this a great opportunity to host people from across the state, but it also provides a great chance for us to spend time with our CBF family just down the road. Members from Second Baptist will also be joining us. Please note: this is not an event for ministers only. This is a chance for whole congregations to dialogue and learn together.

Please make plans to join us April 27 & 28. Friday night will begin with a business session at 5:00 and will be followed by a Central BBQ dinner and worship together featuring guest preacher, Rev. Dr. Kevin Cosby. Dr. Cosby serves as Senior Pastor of St. Stephen Church and President of Simmons College, both in Louisville, KY. On Saturday morning we will gather again for Gibson’s Donuts and to hear about the Empower West initiative led by Dr. Cosby in conjunction with CBF churches in Kentucky. We will also hear from ministers and lay leaders from around the state about the opportunities and obstacles for bridge building in their communities and have a chance to dialogue together about these issues. We will close our day together with lunch, worship, and communion around the table.

I am excited about this opportunity and hope you will make it a priority to be with us as welcome our friends to First Baptist. You can register online at http://tncbf.org/tcbfgeneral-assembly/. Childcare will be available and we will need to know how many meals to prepare, so please be sure to register. If you have any problems registering, I am happy to help.

Thank you in advance for your support and enthusiasm!

There is a special planning team that is busy preparing for General Assembly. We are hard at work sprucing up our space, making plans for our time together, and of course picking out some of Memphis’ best local restaurants to cater our meals. Please be sure to thank Linda Marks and Robin Miller for their help as we dream and plan for this special event.

But we can’t host this weekend without your help!

We need help serving meals for Friday dinner and Saturday lunch, working the registration table on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, and people to be around to answer questions and serve as hospitality coordinators throughout the event on Friday evening and Saturday morning. You can sign up to help by going online and signing up, emailing Brittany (bstillwell@fbcmemphis.org) or on the sign-up sheet that is going around to Sunday School classes starting March 4.
